your day before the day

it's david's birthday on the 17th and it's one of those last somethings before we're married. for us it's significant because as friends i would always send him a card in july and tried my hardest to convince him that he was absolutely born in July. my birthday. he trumped me big time and proposed so that's that.
i know he didn't want to have a big get together but gosh, it's been a while since we've had a lot of friends over. i don't know if it's the planning, the recession or a combo meal but after christmas was the last time we really "entertained" more than one couple. even though the wedding process has been planning with him, i'm debating whether i want to have an us moment before things get crazy in the home stretch, or lighten it up and have some friends over.
then there's the gifting. i always go all out and buy lots of gifts so i am going to take this opportunity to give him a few things that he needs for the wedding, or that he would like to have, in an unexpected shape or form. isn't it nice to have another moment to celebrate your upcoming wedding together? it's not the gifts, or even the friends, but grounds you right into the spot where you remember why you're spending four weeks deciding on a cake topper. The winter of 1997 in Alamo, CA. At The Steps of Rome in SF to big whale in the Berkeley Hills. How it all began. That's a kind of birth.
