all that glitters

people come up with their very best ideas in the most unusual places. that amazing paper that you bookmarked becomes a string of garland, lights and paper love while washing the dishes. David says he works out scenes in a script through his soccer playstation game (err, still not sure about that one but he doesn't play that often). my "places" are 1. the shower (I have zero patience in a bathtub and until they have waterproof magazines, it's not happening for me), 2. washing the dishes (the only redeeming feature of not having a dishwasher) and 3. the gym. I've been super slacking with my workouts until i went back to a spinning class and i figured out the backdrop behind our ceremony site and after the gagillion shoes i've considered & the kind of shoes i'm buying. I call it when my mind goes on a road trip. you are not forcing your brain to sort out a problem/ project but just letting it go.

as my mind was going without me asking it questions or bombarding it with new information, it remembered something someone said to me this week: "the bride didn't care if people loved or hated the flowers, her red dress, or the music she had chosen. we asked her what she wanted people to remember or feel about the day and she said 'that it was so her'"
Ah, yes. So true. We struggle through so many thoughts and ideas, and perhaps more than anything we place unnecessary pressure on ourselves to have a "blogworthy wedding". I'm coining that phrase ladies! As much as we are inspired, we also feel intense pressure to have one of these amazing weddings we see on our favorite blogs. "how did they get the lights in those trees?" "who dragged the furniture in the woods?" "how did everything look so damn perfect?"
what is perfect? what really matters to you? how stressed are you to stick with a theme? how double dog stressed are you that it won't look cohesive?

as the caterpillar would say, "whooo are youuuu?"

back in my spinning class, my mind lept to this:

it's a vera wang tulle and crystal necklace. this non wedding photograph embodies everything that i want my wedding to be, look and feel. except next to it would be a kelly green retro something with celtic embroidery. the only part of that great quote that was missing for me is that I want people to say that the wedding was so "us". he's getting married too! if it were just my wedding, people would be wearing angel wings and we'd be rolled in pink and glitter.

by cool down, i knew my shoes would be sequins. there's a pair of mui mui 's that i've had my eye on for a while. i have a million colored shoes with bows. they are very me. but i am a glitter girl. i wore wings to clubs and painted mixed media with glitter. i knew where my dark green sequins were going and how they reflect pinks and blues in the sunlight.

mui mui sequins = me me shoes

wherever your go-to place is to let your mind go, be sure to go there, and visit often. that's where your wedding is.
